Parent Coaching

Parent with confidence,
connect with heart

When should you consider parent coaching?

Let’s face it. Parenting can be hard. You try your best to create the best environment for your child to grow, but it’s often hard to know if you’re making the right choices. There is a bewildering array of books, videos, forums, and professional voices out there, let alone the advice you get from well-meaning family and friends. How do you make sense of all this, often conflicting, information?

parent support

Parent coaching offers a tailored approach that fits the needs of your child, because your child is unique and so is your situation. It draws from evidence-based parenting theories and child development to offer you education and practical strategies to meet your parenting goals.

A parent coach can offer you the support, insight, and reassurance you need within a judgment-free zone.

Discover how parent coaching works

Parent coaching is for any parent or caregiver who wants to improve their parenting skills and relationship with their child, whether you are a single parent or partnered, first time parent or not. Whatever your situation, parent coaching can:

Help you identify your parenting needs and establish the goals you can work towards in meeting them.

Provide the knowledge and practical strategies tailored to meet your unique parenting challenges.

Help you build a stronger, more positive relationship with your child.

Offer you the support you need as your ally in handling the stressors of parenting

Benefits of parent coaching

A parent coach can offer you a judgment-free neutral space, where you can gain the knowledge and tools tested and grounded in research from a trained professional. You may be wondering, why do I need parent coaching? Can’t I just ask my friends, check out a forum, or google it? While there are many nuggets of wisdom out there, a parent coach offers a judgment-free, neutral space for you, and is trained to equip you with knowledge and tools that are tested and grounded in research.

Some of the benefits you may gain in working with a parent coach are:

Improved connection and communication with your child.

Being on the same page with another parent in raising your child.

Better success in establishing rules and routines that are actually followed by your child.

Increased confidence and peace in navigating the daily rigors of parenting.

Increased ability to manage your child’s misbehavior or difficult emotions.

Better results in supporting your child with academic performance and attendance.

Strategies to help your child make friends, work well with others, or deal with bullying.

Better ability to help your child through physical or mental health issues, such as nightmares, anxiety, or low self-esteem.

What to expect from parent coaching

Many parents wonder that, if my child is the one who is driving me crazy, why should I be the one seeing someone? Shouldn’t they be the one seeing a therapist? Parents often come into counselling wanting a therapist to “fix” their child. While there are many instances where child therapy would be appropriate, the reason for parent coaching is simple math.

Consider the number of hours your child spends with you, versus an hour per week they may spend with a therapist. While a child can gain helpful support and tools over weekly sessions, parents have much more opportunities to support their child on a daily basis in their real life contexts.
